Top 10 finish for the band at National Finals
This was to be the last appearence in a 4th section contest for the band (hopefully for a very long time yet), so the aim always was to go out with a bang and certainly make our way in to the top 10 at the very least.

After being drawn at number 1 the band had the honour of opening proceedings for the busiest weekend in the brass band calender at the most prestigious competition any band will play at.

Following the National Anthem of Great Britain (God Save the Queen) played well by the band came the performance of Peter Yorke's The Shipbuilders Suite. This performance by the band was not really near the standard the band would normally set but despite one or two nerves once again creeping in everyone was reasonably happy with how things had gone.

The number 1 draw meant the band had a long wait from 9.30 am until mid-afternoon for the results. When the results came out members of the band were ecstatic to learn of the 8th place finish espeicially after the number 1 draw.

Our thanks must go to the organisers of the trip and all those who helped with fundraising. Also to our fantastic supporters without whom the band would not be what it is today and also to Matt from Thorseby Youth Band who was borrowed on the day as 2nd trombone player. Of course extra special thanks must go to our man in the middle, M.D. Kerry Bowden who puts it all together and has guided the band through to this top 10 finish after a heartbreaking previous two years at Harrogate (particularly in 2007) and last but certainly not least to 'Pedro Pete' our excellent coach driver from Cymru Coaches who certainly got to know a lot about the band throughout the weekend, as well as providing the comedy throughout the weekend.

Our attention now turns to next Saturday and the South West Wales Brass Band Competition at Ammanford where the band will this time compete in Section 2 and will perform a different test-piece to The Shipbuilders Suite. Undoubtably this is a tough task to prepare for a second competition in 7 days and play a different test piece but it is one the band is prepared to do and work hard to deliver a high class performance at Ammanford and hopefully come away with a prize.
