Minor Seventh Struck a Chord in Swansea
|We think the band were aware of a few little slip ups at yesterdays Regional Finals in Swansea’s Brangwyn Hall, but to come off stage to a very happy, smiley musical director gave everyone a little boost in confidence and raised the bands hopes.
Having been drawn third to play, the band set to relax while the remainder of the 10 second section bands finished performing Eric Ball’s “Resurgam”.
However well any of us think we’ve played, it’s all down to the decision of one man at the end of the day. The little man in the tent was David Read and he wasn’t as pleased as some with the way that we’d performed. A slightly disappointing seventh place was awarded to Cross Keys.
As if one lot of bad news wasn’t enough, France beat Wales 28-9 in the final game of the 2011 Six Nations later that evening.
It always goes without saying, but any result encourage the band to practice harder and perform better and we hope to prove this at Ebbw Vale in May.
Thankyou for the comment i have been asked by one of the organisers of the contest to comment on peoples bands websites, as these days most bands have websites! To be honest the only marked you at seventh place because in the brangwyn hall the sound does not travel as well as it should do due to the aerodynamics of the building. When you played some instruments were behind due to this, the double b’s sound travels up and not out so this menas the travel of the sound does not get to the audience as fast as it should do. i hope that this has helped for next year when you play in the brangwyn hall all the best

Obviously you cannot argue with Mr Read, he is one of the most experienced adjudicators around, and in his remarks, his critisisms are few, and on the whole constructive, but if you listened to his comments from the stage, he also said that the standard of playing of Resurgam in Swansea, was the highest of any area!
Best wishes,
Kerry
